About

A little about me.

I'm Liam — a Chartered Civil & ITEEE Engineer working at the intersection of design, data, and digital delivery on major infrastructure projects.

What I do

I'm a Project Information Manager / BIM Manager / Digital Engineering Manager at Hatch, an engineering consultancy with a strong presence in energy, mining, and infrastructure. My role sits between the engineering disciplines and the digital platforms they rely on — setting up the common data environments, information standards, and BIM workflows that keep large multi-disciplinary teams aligned.

My work spans road, rail, tunnels and energy projects. Across all of them the hat is a similar one: making sure the information that flows out of design is useful, trusted, and ready for construction and operations.

Alongside project work, I'm Hatch's Global Technical Lead for Bentley OpenRoads / OpenRail, supporting the global work environment, training and best-practice use of our civil design tooling.

The long version

I've been at this for about twenty years, in a few different guises.

Tools of the trade

Day-to-day I work across Bentley OpenRoads, OpenRail, OpenBridge, OpenBuildings and ProjectWise; Autodesk Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks and Dynamo; plus iConstruct, Revizto, and 12D — and a long list of small scripts and bits of code that glue them together.

What I'm interested in

Why this site?

I'd been meaning to have a place to think out loud for a while. This is it. Expect notes on whatever I'm working on or reading — engineering, code, AI, occasionally something about how a project actually gets built. Nothing I write here reflects the views of my employer or any client.

Say hello

You can find me on GitHub, LinkedIn, or by email. I read everything, but may take a while to reply.
